Rui Assubuji is a Research Associate at the Centre for Humanities Research, University of the Western Cape, South Africa, affiliated with the SARChI Chair of Visual History & Theory. He specializes in visual historiography, photographic archive analysis, and audiovisual culture in Mozambique.
Research Interests: His work explores photographic archives (1850–1930) as sites of historical and cultural analysis, focusing on methodologies for interpreting visual narratives, memory construction, knowledge creation through audiovisual media, and archival practices including conservation and public access. His professional background spans video and photography production, including roles at Mozambican National Television (1985) and freelance work since 1992.
