Dr. Rudolf Steffens is a Research Associate at the Institute for Historical Regional Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Since 1981, he has specialized in historical linguistics, focusing on Late Medieval/Early Modern German dialects, onomastics, and technical languages.
He earned his doctorate in German Philology in 1987 with a dissertation on Early New High German land registers. His work involves quantitative analysis of historical legal documents to trace language evolution.
