Rudolf Schilder is an Associate Professor of Entomology and Biology at Pennsylvania State University, affiliated with the Department of Biology and Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. His research focuses on Animal Locomotion through the lens of Comparative Physiology and Biomechanics, exploring how animals adapt morphologically and physiologically to diverse environments. Key themes include insect movement mechanics, thermal physiology, pesticide impacts, and parasite-host interactions.
Current projects investigate metabolic effects of neonicotinoids on monarch butterflies, thermal tolerance in solitary bees, and biomechanics of dragonfly flight. The Schilder Lab actively recruits researchers with backgrounds in biology, engineering, and coding. Recent articles highlight interdisciplinary approaches to understanding energy use, body size scaling, and environmental stressors on insect performance.
