Charles Darveau is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Ottawa, specializing in evolutionary physiology and the energetics of animal locomotion. His research integrates evolutionary perspectives with physiological, biochemical, and biomechanical studies, primarily using flying insects as model organisms due to their high energy demands and diverse energetic strategies.
Key research interests include metabolic rate regulation, flight energetics, thermal physiology, and conservation physiology. His work explores how physiological systems evolve to meet the energy requirements of locomotion, particularly in bumblebees and other insects. He investigates metabolic pathways, enzyme activity, and membrane composition as determinants of energetic efficiency and thermal tolerance.
