Ruby Gropas is a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges (since 2012), and holds a Lectureship in International Relations at the Law Faculty of the University of Thrace (currently on leave). She leads the Social Market Economy team at I.D.E.A., the European Commission President’s Advisory service, and previously directed the Social Affairs team at the European Political Strategy Centre (2015-2019). Her career spans research, policy analysis, and academic leadership across Europe and the U.S.
Education: Political Science (Université Libre de Bruxelles), Business Management (University of Maryland), European Studies (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven), and a PhD in International Relations from Cambridge University. She has held fellowships at Stanford University’s CDDRL, the Woodrow Wilson Center, and the European University Institute.
Research interests focus on migration policy, EU integration dynamics, foreign policy frameworks, and human rights governance. She contributes to academic discourse as Book Review Co-Editor for the Journal of Common Market Studies and previously served as Managing Editor of the Journal of Southeast European and Black Sea Studies (2005-2009).
Professional experience includes roles at McKinsey & Co., the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), and advisory work for the European Commission. Her work bridges strategic policy analysis with academic rigor, emphasizing transnational governance challenges.
