Professor Ruby Ashley is a lecturer in oboe studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM). She holds academic qualifications including MA, GRNCM, and Dip NCOS. Her career spans teaching, orchestral performance, and chamber music, with notable roles such as Principal Oboe of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Principal Cor Anglais of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra.
Education includes studies with Janet Craxton, the Royal Northern College of Music, and Goldsmiths College, London. She completed a Master’s Degree in Music (2008) focusing on oboe reeds. Ruby is a founding member of the Degani Ensemble, touring nationally and internationally with performances alongside soprano Cara O’Sullivan.
Her professional engagements include recordings with RTE orchestras, the Waterboys, and contemporary composers like Paul Hayes. She has performed and recorded works by composers such as Bach, Bliss, and Irish contemporaries Grainne Mulvey and Deirdre Gribbin.
Ruby’s contributions to music education and performance are highlighted through her teaching at RIAM and her active participation in ensembles like the Degani Ensemble, emphasizing both classical and contemporary repertoire.
