Ruben Phillips is a teaching-focused Lecturer in Human Biology at the School of Medical and Health Sciences, Edith Cowan University (ECU). He also serves as the International Mobility Coordinator. His roles include teaching courses such as SCH1134 Human Structure & Function, SCH1143 Systems Physiology, and MMS2200 Introduction to Histology and Histotechniques. Phillips holds a Master of Science in Human Biology (2019) and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Arts Education and Biological Studies (2006).
His research interests span medical education, particularly in physiology core concepts and international study tours. Notable projects include the Follow Your Curiosity Project (HEPPP) and contributions to ASELL and ACSME conferences. Phillips has also explored wound healing mechanisms using plant extracts and published on perceptual phenomena like the eye contact illusion.
Phillips has received the 2014 Executive Dean’s Award. His professional memberships include ASHB (Australasian Society for Human Biology), HAPS (Human Anatomy and Physiology Society), and STAWA (Science Teachers' Association of Western Australia). He collaborates widely on educational initiatives and has co-authored peer-reviewed articles on physiology education frameworks and interdisciplinary science concepts.
