Ruben J. Garcia is the Ralph Denton Professor of Law and Director of the Workplace Law Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas William S. Boyd School of Law. He holds a B.A. from Stanford University, J.D. from UCLA School of Law, and LL.M. from the University of Wisconsin Law School. His expertise spans Labor Law, Employment Discrimination Law, Constitutional Law, and Critical Race Theory. He previously served as Associate Dean for Faculty Development (2017–2019) and directed the Labor and Employment Law Program at California Western School of Law.
His research focuses on wage justice, marginalized workers, and the intersection of race, immigration, and labor rights. Recent works include Critical Wage Theory: Why Wage Justice is Racial Justice (2024) and articles on pandemic-era workplace safety and gig economy regulation. He has held visiting professorships at UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and other institutions.
Garcia’s scholarly contributions address systemic gaps in labor protections, advocating for legal frameworks that bridge divides between marginalized worker groups. He has been a keynote speaker at conferences on labor law, workplace safety, and racial justice. His awards include Fellowships from the American Law Institute (2022) and the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers (2020). He actively participates in policy discussions, advising on labor law reforms and serving on boards like the American Constitution Society.
