Ruben Coen-Cagli

Ruben Coen-Cagli is Associate Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine with joint appointments in Systems & Computational Biology, Neuroscience, and Ophthalmology departments. His laboratory studies neural computation underlying perceptual experience, focusing on probabilistic inference in natural vision. Research combines computer vision, machine learning and neural coding theories.

Current investigations examine how cortical processing handles sensory noise and ambiguities in natural images through contextual modulation. Collaborations include electrophysiology studies testing computational hypotheses about information encoding. Recent publications analyze hippocampal neurogenesis and cortical noise correlations.

The lab develops video segmentation algorithms and studies perceptual uncertainty measurement. Funded projects include BRAIN Initiative grants on divisive normalization mechanisms and vulnerability in autism spectrum disorders.
