Adam Kohn, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Dominick P. Purpura Department of Neuroscience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He holds additional professorships in the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and the Department of Systems & Computational Biology. His research focuses on visual processing, particularly rapid cortical plasticity, population coding, and inter-areal communication in the brain. Using neurophysiological, computational, and behavioral methods, his lab investigates how visual information is encoded and processed by cortical neurons, with an emphasis on adaptation, corticocortical signaling, and the neuronal basis of perception.
Dr. Kohn’s work spans macaque and mouse visual systems, employing multielectrode recordings and computational models to interpret physiological data. His research also explores the relationship between neural activity and human perception through psychophysical methods. Key contributions include studies on corticocortical communication mechanisms, population coding in visual areas, and the role of coordinated neuronal activity in enhancing signal transmission.
He has authored or co-authored numerous publications in top-tier journals such as Nature Communications, Neuron, and PLoS Computational Biology, reflecting his expertise in systems neuroscience and computational approaches. His work bridges experimental and theoretical neuroscience, advancing our understanding of neural coding and cortical dynamics.
