Ruba Ali Al-Hassani is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Lancaster University’s Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion, specializing in Iraqi studies, transitional justice, and social movements. She holds a B.Sc. in Psychology & Sociology, an M.A. in Criminology, an LL.M. in Transitional Justice, and is completing her PhD at Osgoode Hall Law School. Ruba is also a Research Consultant with King's College London and a contributing writer at Inside Arabia and The New Arab. Her research focuses on state-society relations in Iraq, law, and social justice, with a particular emphasis on marginalized voices in public discourse.

Her work explores themes such as Iraqi social movements, sectarianism, and the intersections of law and power. Ruba has co-founded the Canadian Association for Muslim Women in Law and taught at York and Trent Universities. She has participated in international conferences and media engagements addressing Iraq’s political instability and cultural dynamics. Her research outputs include articles, commissioned reports, and blogs analyzing Iraq’s Tishreen Movement, epistemic violence in discourse, and sovereignty during genocide.
Ruba’s activities include invited talks on Iraqi law reforms and roundtables on youth perspectives in power-sharing, reflecting her commitment to bridging academic analysis with policy impact.
