Ruba Abu-Salma is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at King’s College London, affiliated with the Cybersecurity Group and Human-Centered Computing Group within the Department of Informatics. Her research bridges cybersecurity, privacy, human-computer interaction (HCI), and public policy, with a focus on at-risk populations. She has previously held postdoctoral roles at the International Computer Science Institute (Berkeley) and INRIA Sophia Antipolis.
- Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science from University College London (UCL), with a thesis on user-centered privacy-enhancing technologies.
Her work investigates how user needs, practices, and perceptions shape digital security adoption, particularly in smart homes and marginalized communities. She employs mixed-method approaches, including empirical studies and design frameworks.
Recent publications address privacy in smart homes, security for migrant workers, and ethical AI. Ruba serves on program committees for venues like IEEE S&P, ACM CHI, and USENIX Security, and co-chairs workshops on sociotechnical aspects of security.
