Roza Laptander is a Researcher at the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland, affiliated with the Anthropology Research Group and Global Change Research Group. Her work focuses on sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, and documenting the Nenets language, alongside studies of climate change impacts on Arctic communities. She investigates the Western Siberian Nenets’ historical and contemporary lifeways in the Yamal tundra, emphasizing environmental knowledge and societal adaptation.
Roza collaborates on key projects such as AROSS (Rain on Snow, 2019–2025), CHARTER (Arctic Terrestrial Biodiversity, 2020–2025), and HUMANOR (Human-Animal Relations under Climate Change, 2015–2018), funded by international and Finnish institutions. Her research bridges anthropology, environmental science, and policy, addressing climate change, infrastructure, and indigenous knowledge systems.
Her publications explore reindeer herding, seasonal conditions, and indigenous environmental expertise. Notable recent work includes analyses of Nenets plant identification practices and the socio-ecological impacts of Arctic transport infrastructure.
