Roy Brouwer is a Full Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Waterloo and Executive Director of the University of Waterloo’s Water Institute. He holds a visiting professorship at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) and previously served at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam’s Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM). His research focuses on water economics, environmental risk assessment, and economic valuation, with contributions to policy-relevant studies on sustainable resource management. He has supervised 12 PhD theses and received accolades including the 2024 IWA Best Scientific Book Prize and the 2021 Faculty of Arts Award for Excellence in Research.
