Ross Hendy is a Lecturer in Criminology at Monash University's School of Social Sciences. He specializes in policing practices, particularly focusing on police-citizen interactions, use of force, and evidence-based policing. Previously a Sergeant with New Zealand Police, he bridges academic research with operational policing insights.
Education: PhD in Criminology (University of Cambridge), MSS in Strategic Studies (Victoria University of Wellington), and certifications in policing and music composition. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a British Academy Visiting Fellow.
Research interests include cross-national policing comparisons, lethal force monitoring, and disaster management during crises. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to justice and safety.
Key projects include the Global Lethal Force Monitor and studies on police Taser use disparities. He has published widely on topics like police shootings, mental health calls, and bushfire crisis management.
