Ross Brisco

Ross Brisco is a Lecturer in the Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management (DMEM) at the University of Strathclyde, Faculty of Engineering. He is actively involved in teaching, research, and academic leadership, serving as the 1st-year Advisor of Studies and championing social media and student industry projects within the department.

Ross's research centers on Computer-Supported Collaborative Design, Design Engineering Education, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality into design processes. He investigates strategic technology selection and the development of digital tools to enhance product design and education. His recent publications focus on AI in design sketching, idea generation, and emotional aspects of design learning.

The trend in his recent articles highlights a strong emphasis on the role of AI in design education and practice, particularly in enhancing creativity, collaboration, and educational outcomes. His work bridges engineering design with cognitive and pedagogical aspects, using both qualitative and computational methods.

Ross has secured and led multiple research and knowledge exchange projects, including several Digital Dairy Chain Innovation Vouchers and an NMIS internship on AI for sustainable engineering. He serves as a Principal Investigator (PI) on projects related to AI, sustainability, and STEM outreach. His academic service includes being a Guest Editor for Design Science, peer reviewer for leading journals, and member of scientific advisory boards for major design conferences (E&PDE, ICED, DESIGN, ICoRD). He is also an active member of the Design Society, elected to its Advisory Board in 2023, and contributes to conference organization and workshop facilitation.

Ross is involved in multiple collaborative initiatives, including the Engineering Academics Network (EAN) Annual Congress and Horizon Europe working groups. He has developed CPD courses with NMIS on Strategic Technology Selection and contributes to the Design Research Group at Strathclyde.
