Ross Anderson

Dr. Ross Anderson is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Sydney, serving as Academic Director (Curriculum) within the School of Architecture, Design and Planning. His work bridges architectural practice, history, and philosophy, with a focus on modern European architecture and its intersections with sacred spaces, aesthetics, and cultural theory. Prior to academia, he practiced in Berlin with renowned architects Daniel Libeskind and Zvi Hecker.

Anderson holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where his dissertation 'From the Bauhütte to the Bauhaus' explored historical transitions in architectural education and practice. His research has been published in leading journals like AA Files, Architectural Histories, and Drawing Matter Journal, alongside monographs such as *The Appian Way* (2025) and co-edited volumes like *Modern Architecture and the Sacred* (2020).

His research interests encompass the philosophy of architecture, the role of spirituality in design, and the legacy of modernist movements. Notable projects include studies of Adolphe Appia’s scenographic innovations and Le Corbusier’s engagement with existentialist thought.
