Dr Roshan Boojihawon is an Associate Professor in Strategy at the Department of Strategy and International Business, Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham. He is also a Visiting Research Fellow at the Open University Business School. His academic journey includes a PhD in International Strategy from the University of Strathclyde (2003), an MSc in International Marketing (1999), and a BSc (Hons) in Management Studies from the University of Mauritius (1997).
His research expertise spans International Strategy, International Entrepreneurship, Strategy in Cross-Cultural Contexts, and Digital Entrepreneurship in Sub-Saharan Africa. He has a strong focus on Chinese and Indian multinationals operating in Africa, organizational collaborations, and sustainability in emerging markets.
His recent publications reveal a consistent trend in analyzing strategic agility, sustainability, ethical sourcing, and digital transformation across emerging economies, particularly in Africa. His work often bridges theoretical frameworks with practical implications in consultancy, banking, and multinational enterprises.

Dr Boojihawon has made significant contributions to online education, having led the development of distance learning programs such as the Online MSc International Business and Online MBA at the University of Birmingham. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor in Strategy at The Open University, where he pioneered online pedagogical innovations including activity-led and collaborative learning models.
He has supervised postgraduate dissertations and taught modules such as Strategic Management, International Business Strategy, and Research Methods across various programs including the MSc Management, Executive MBA, and distance learning formats. His teaching philosophy is deeply influenced by Paulo Freire’s concept of education as a practice of freedom, emphasizing critical reflection, exploration, and personal transformation.
Dr Boojihawon has provided consultancy services to firms in professional services, high-tech, and science-based industries, demonstrating applied relevance of his research. He is an active reviewer for numerous top-tier journals including International Business Review, Journal of International Management, Services Industries Journal, and African Journal of Economic and Management Studies.
