Rosemary Huisman is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Discipline of English and Writing at the University of Sydney. Previously, she served as Head of Semiotics at the same institution. Her research spans poetry from Old English to contemporary Australian, narrative theory, legal discourse analysis, and theories of time and temporalities. She holds a BA and PhD from the University of Sydney. Her work integrates systemic functional linguistics with literary and legal studies, emphasizing the social-semiotic dimension of language.
Education: BA and PhD in English from the University of Sydney. Current projects include narrative temporalities in English literary texts, statutory interpretation, and graphology. She is affiliated with multiple scholarly societies, including ASFLA (Australian Systemic Functional Linguistics Association) and ISST (International Society for the Study of Time).
Publications include Narrative Worlds and the Texture of Time (2022), Narrative and Media (2005), and The Written Poem (1998). She has received grants for research on Australian poetry transformations (2000, 1999) and is a published poet with works like The Possibility of Winds (2006). Her research often explores intersections between time, narrative, and language in diverse media.
Grants: 2000 (Transformation in Australian poetry, 1967-1979) and 1999 (Transformation in Australian poetry, 1930-1967). She is an invited member of the YoungStreet Poets workshop since 1978.
