Dr Rosemary Gibson is an Associate Professor at the School of Psychology, Massey University, New Zealand. Her research focuses on the sociology of sleep, ageing, disease, caregiving, and how modern society commodifies sleep. She collaborates internationally, including at the University of Surrey, and leads studies like “The Role of Sleep in Healthy Ageing and Living Well with Dementia” and “Caring around the Clock: Providing a Framework for Improving Sleep Health of Family Carers”.

Her expertise spans sleep across the lifespan, non-pharmacological approaches to sleep health, and sleep as a social construct. Current projects include “Sensationalising Sleep: Discourses and Practices of Sleep in Aotearoa” (Marsden Fast Start Fund, 2023–2026) and “Pai te moe, pai te ora. Understanding the Influence of Sleep in Aotearoa” (Massey University Strategic Research Excellence Fund, 2023). She co-investigates the AWESSoM programme (National Science Challenge Ageing Well grant, 2019–2024) and the Health Work and Retirement cohort study.
