Sr. Rosemary Donley is a Professor and holds the Jacques Laval Chair for Justice for Vulnerable Populations at Duquesne University School of Nursing. She leads the McGinley-Rice symposium series on social justice, focusing on issues like homelessness, human trafficking, and mental health. Her work integrates nursing education, policy advocacy, and community outreach. Donley has extensive leadership experience, including roles as Dean of Nursing at Catholic University of America and Executive Vice President, and has advised federal agencies like the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Education: PhD in Higher Education/Public Health (University of Pittsburgh, 1972), MNEd (University of Pittsburgh, 1966), BSN (St. Louis University, 1963), Diploma (Pittsburgh Hospital, 1961), and a Primary Care certificate (Catholic University of America, 1998).
Research interests center on vulnerable populations, health policy, and social justice. She has authored over 130 publications and presented globally. Her symposia raise awareness and mobilize action for marginalized groups, with $241,750 raised since 2019. Donley has co-led grants totaling $3.2M to educate nurses serving vulnerable communities and $484,981 for studies on wounded service members.
Awards include the Nell J. Watts Lifetime Achievement Award, Living Legend status in the American Academy of Nursing, and the Elizabeth Seton Medal. She serves on boards including the Catholic Youth Association and chairs the CGFNS. Donley’s work bridges nursing practice, policy, and global health equity.
