Roselyn Costantino is a Professor in the Department of Spanish and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Pennsylvania State University’s Altoona College. She also holds affiliations with the Latin Studies program and University Graduate faculty. Her work bridges feminist theory, performance studies, and critical analyses of gender-based violence in Latin America.
Education includes a MA from Montclair State University (1988) in Spanish Peninsular literature and a PhD from Arizona State University (1992) focusing on Latin American theatre and narrative. She was a 2011 Fulbright Scholar at La Universidad del Valle in Guatemala.
Research focuses on femicide in Guatemala, violence against women, and the intersection of performance art with political activism. Notable projects include examining Guatemalan women’s empowerment post-conflict violence and analyzing feminist theatre practices across the Americas. Current work involves a manuscript on structural deformities and transformative collaboration in Guatemala’s gendered violence narratives.
Key publications include Holy Terrors: Latin American Women Perform (2003) and articles on feminist pedagogy, asylum-seeking frameworks for survivors, and Mexican performance artists like Jesusa Rodríguez. Her work often integrates embodied memory, cultural politics, and transnational feminist strategies.
Professional service includes membership in the University Graduate faculty and Women’s Studies programs. Research interests span Latin American writers, indigenous youth resistance movements, and the role of creativity in marginalized communities.
