Rose Wellman is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, affiliated with the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters and the Department of Behavioral Sciences. She actively engages in interdisciplinary research and teaching, with formal affiliations in Arab American Studies, Middle East Studies, and Women's & Gender Studies at UM-Dearborn, as well as the Center for Arab American Narratives at ACCESS.
Research Interests:
- Foodways as a lens to examine state power and religious practices in Iran
- Transnational kinship, marriage, and relatedness
- Islam and religion in both Middle Eastern and diaspora contexts
- Intersection of feminism, biotechnology, and social activism
Publication Trends: Her work bridges ethnographic fieldwork with theoretical explorations of kinship, religion, and food, focusing on Iran and the Iraqi diaspora in metro Detroit. Her scholarship often addresses how personal and communal practices intersect with political and cultural institutions.
