Dr. Rose Miron is the Vice President of Research and Education at the Newberry Library and an Adjunct Professor in the History Department at Northwestern University. She holds a BA in History and a PhD in American Studies from the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on American Indian and Indigenous History in the Great Lakes region, public history, and memory. She co-directs the Indigenous Chicago project, a collaboration between the Newberry Library, Native communities, and tribal nations. Previously, she managed the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition’s digital archive project.
Her thematic research interests include colonial and diasporic history, gender and sexuality, and public history. Her work bridges academic scholarship and public engagement, emphasizing Indigenous perspectives in historical narratives. She has published widely on topics such as repatriation, digital archives, and Indigenous representation in public spaces.
Dr. Miron’s career reflects a commitment to social justice, particularly through projects like Indigenous Chicago, which challenges historical erasure, and her contributions to archaeological ethics and tribal sovereignty. She actively collaborates with Indigenous communities to center their voices in historical discourse.
