Bethany G. Anderson is an Assistant Professor in the University Archives at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s University Library, concurrently serving as Natural and Applied Sciences Archivist. She is a PhD candidate in the History of Science at the same university. Her work bridges archival practice, historical research, and community engagement, focusing on marginalized voices in scientific and anthropological records.
Anderson holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Michigan, an M.A. in Near Eastern Art and Archaeology from the University of Chicago, and an M.S. in Information Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research explores the history of anthropology, cybernetics, and women’s contributions to science, with an emphasis on ethical curation of Indigenous and gendered scientific archives.
Key projects include the Doris Duke Native American Oral History Revitalization Project (2021-2024), which digitizes Indigenous oral histories while fostering tribal co-curation partnerships, and the NEH-funded 'No Longer at the Margins' initiative amplifying women’s scientific archives. Her work emphasizes collaborative frameworks for archival accessibility and repatriation.
