Rose McDermott is the David and Marianna Fisher University Professor of International Relations and Professor of Political Science at Brown University. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and an M.A. in Experimental Social Psychology from Stanford University, with prior appointments at Cornell University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. A Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, she has held prestigious fellowships at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute, Olin Institute for Strategic Studies, and Stanford’s Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.
Her research focuses on political psychology, integrating evolutionary theory, experimental methods, and biological approaches to study topics like gender dynamics, nuclear deterrence psychology, and the genetic basis of political behavior. She has authored five books, co-edited two volumes, and published over 200 articles across disciplines, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and ethical research practices.
McDermott’s awards include her American Academy fellowship, reflecting her contributions to advancing understanding of human decision-making in political contexts. Her work bridges theoretical innovation with practical implications for policy, security, and global health governance.
