Her research investigates Latin American political dynamics through intersecting lenses of resource conflicts, elite power structures, environmental politics, and social movement networks. She examines how civic engagement and grassroots mobilization drive policy shifts in contexts of inequality, with particular focus on Central American mining governance and trade resistance movements.
Analysis of her publications reveals evolving scholarly trajectories from market reform opposition to contemporary resource extraction conflicts. Her work consistently demonstrates how social movements translate street protests into legislative action, as evidenced by studies on El Salvador's mining ban and comparative Central American trade policies.
She holds the distinguished Vincent DePaul Professorship, recognizing exceptional scholarly contributions to DePaul University and her field.
