Rosalyn Negron is a Professor of Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She holds affiliations with the Gastón Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy, the Critical Ethnic & Community Studies graduate program, and the Sustainable Solutions Lab. She earned her PhD in Anthropology from the University of Florida (2007). Her research focuses on urban anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and medical anthropology, with a regional emphasis on the United States and Latin America. She investigates topics like ethno-racial relations, health disparities, immigration, climate equity, and transdisciplinary methods.
Her work bridges social networks, decision-making processes, and equity in STEM/Climate contexts. Recent projects include studies on climate adaptation in Boston communities of color, post-Hurricane Maria evacuation decisions in Puerto Rico, and community-driven environmental assessments in Vieques, Puerto Rico. She has secured funding from the NSF, NIH, Ford Foundation, and others. Negrón teaches research design and methods, emphasizing ethnographic and mixed-methods approaches, and co-leads UMass Boston’s Transdisciplinary Dissertation Proposal Development Program.
Her research methodologies include ethnography, social network analysis, and participatory action research. She actively engages in applied projects addressing climate justice, health equity, and community empowerment through collaborations with frontline communities and institutions like the Sustainable Solutions Lab.
