Dr. Sameer Shah is the John C. Garcia Professor and Assistant Professor of Climate Adaptation at the University of Washington’s School of Environmental & Forest Sciences (SEFS). He holds affiliations with the UW Center for Studies in Demography & Ecology, Center for Environmental Politics, and Clean Energy Institute. His research focuses on climate adaptation equity, water security, and systemic vulnerability, particularly in marginalized communities. Dr. Shah directs the WATERS Research Collaborative and co-founded the SOLVER Lab, advancing solutions for climate justice.
Education: Ph.D. in Resource Management and Environmental Studies from the University of British Columbia. Current research emphasizes climate maladaptation, disaster resource allocation in Puerto Rico post-Hurricane María, and social vulnerability measurements. His work spans South/Southeast Asia, the U.S., and Puerto Rico, integrating novel methodologies like agent-based modeling and spatial statistics. Key awards include the John C. Garcia Professorship.
Recent projects include analyzing Maharashtra’s drought-relief programs and evaluating post-disaster aid equity in Puerto Rico. Grants and collaborations involve NCAR and interdisciplinary teams. His labs prioritize transdisciplinary approaches to address climate inequities and sustainable policy strategies.
