Rosalyn Mccartney

Rosalyn McCartney serves as a Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences at the University of East Anglia (UEA), where she has taught since 2007. She currently leads mental health components for Year 1 modules in the BSc Nursing programme and previously served as Course Director for the BSc Nursing (Mental Health) until 2022, managing pandemic-era delivery challenges.

Her educational background includes a nursing degree with dissertation research on dementia care support systems for family carers, complemented by specialized training in mental health nursing through the modified branch programme. She holds foundational qualifications in learning disability nursing from her 1987 qualification.

McCartney's research and teaching expertise centers on dementia care innovation and mental health nursing, particularly borderline personality disorder management. She developed and taught the foundational module 'Exploring the Foundations of Person Centred Dementia Care' for the PG Cert in Leadership in Dementia Care and previously ran the 'Dementia Studies' post-registration module, emphasizing patient-centered approaches in complex care scenarios.

Her scholarly work includes a 2009 publication in The British Journal of Psychiatry analyzing antipsychotic medication management, reflecting her clinical focus on balancing pharmacological interventions with patient autonomy in mental health settings. This research demonstrates consistent interest in practical implementation of evidence-based care within NHS frameworks.

As an educator, McCartney has mentored diverse nursing student cohorts including mental health, adult, and learning disability specializations, alongside return-to-practice nurses and enrolled nurse conversions. Her administrative leadership included plagiarism oversight, admissions coordination for the BSc MH Nursing programme, and four years directing the mental health nursing curriculum through unprecedented operational challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic.
