Rosa M. Jimenez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of International & Multicultural Education at the University of San Francisco, where she contributes to teacher education and multicultural scholarship. Her academic work is rooted in critical and culturally relevant pedagogies, with a focus on empowering immigrant students of color.
Her research centers on critical pedagogy and culturally sustaining education, particularly as applied to Latina/o immigrant youth in K–12 classrooms. Drawing from her own experiences growing up in California’s Central Valley as the daughter of Mexican immigrants, she investigates how educators can leverage community cultural wealth and family histories to counter deficit narratives. She advocates for pedagogical approaches that recognize migration as a source of knowledge and resilience.
Her publication in the American Educational Research Journal (2019) introduces the concept of 'migration capital,' highlighting how migration experiences cultivate valuable knowledges and sensibilities. This work exemplifies her focus on narrative, equity, and transformative teaching practices.
