Rosa Junghwa Hong serves as Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, in the Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She currently directs the University of Toronto Mississauga Language Academy and teaches courses including FRE400 (French Studies Internship) for Summer 2025 and FRE181 (Introduction to French Studies) for Fall/Winter 2025-26.
Her educational background includes a PhD in French Literature from the University of Toronto, an MA in French and Comparative Literature from Université de Tours in France, and a combined BA in French Literature and Language from Sang-Myung University in South Korea with a BEd in French as a Second Language Teaching at the secondary level.
Professor Hong's research focuses on Franco-Canadian diaspora writing, French as a second language pedagogy, and innovative teaching methodologies. She explores technology-enhanced language learning approaches, experiential education frameworks, and narrative-based pedagogy of empathy. Her work bridges literary scholarship with practical applications in language education, particularly examining how diaspora literature can inform contemporary language teaching practices.
Her publications demonstrate a clear trajectory from literary analysis toward educational technology and curriculum development. The 2012 article on Franco-Canadian diaspora authors established her literary scholarship foundation, while the 2017 curriculum mapping paper showed her pivot toward educational methodology, culminating in the 2021 publication on autonomous language learning technology that integrates her dual expertise in literature and educational technology.
