Rory Coleman is an Assistant Professor of Biology Education at Rockefeller University. His research examines the evolution of neural mechanisms underlying behavioral innovation, using Drosophila as a model system to study how homologous neurons diversify across species to produce distinct courtship behaviors.
Research objectives:
- Genetic mechanisms shaping neuronal properties
- Circuit organization determining species-specific behaviors
- Coordinated evolution of anatomy and behavior
The Coleman Lab integrates molecular genetics with neuroscience to understand how circuit architectures facilitate rapid behavioral diversification, particularly in response to environmental or social pressures.
