Roos Gerritsma

Roos Gerritsma is an Associate Professor at Inholland University of Applied Sciences, affiliated with the Urban Leisure & Tourism Lab and Applied Research x Creativity knowledge center. She leads the Urban Leisure & Tourism Lab in Amsterdam Noord, focusing on urban transition, regenerative tourism, and inclusive area development. Her current PhD trajectory (Professional Doctorate, 2023–2029) explores regenerative urban tourism principles. She has collaborated with amsterdam&partners, Reinventing Tourism, and international Erasmus partners like Leicester (UK) and Barcelona (SP).

Education: Master’s in Urban Sociology (University of Amsterdam), Bachelor’s in Communication (The Hague University of Applied Sciences), and NOBCO coach certification. Career highlights include roles as lecturer-researcher (2003–2016) and Associate Professor (2016–present) within Creative Business Research Center.

Research interests span urban tourism interventions, sustainable development, and socio-spatial inclusion. Key projects include the European H2020 SMARTDEST study (2020–2023) on tourist city inclusion mechanisms and placemaking workshops via the Urban Leisure & Tourism Lab.

Publications include works on Pride event spatial distribution, Amsterdam residents’ tourism attitudes, and living lab-based tourism solutions. She emphasizes collaborative design, long-term community engagement, and policy integration to address poly-crises in urban contexts.
