Ronnie N. Glud is a Professor and Center Director at the Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), leading the HADAL – Danish Center for Hadal Research. He holds additional affiliations with Northeastern University and DIAS. His primary research focuses on microbial ecology and biogeochemical processes in marine environments, particularly in deep-sea and polar ecosystems. Glud develops advanced in situ lander technologies and microsensor techniques to study carbon mineralization, solute exchange, and microbial community dynamics under extreme conditions.
His work emphasizes the hadal realm's role as a hotspot for organic carbon deposition and turnover, with contributions to understanding climate change impacts on marine systems. He has been involved in over 280 publications and 156 professional activities, including keynote lectures and international collaborations. Notable projects include studies on sediment resuspension effects and trench biodiversity through DNA records.
Glud’s research spans interdisciplinary collaborations, with recent projects funded by the Danish Foundation for Independent Research and EU Horizon programs. His work bridges microbial ecology, geochemistry, and engineering to advance understanding of Earth’s elemental cycles.
