Ronjon Chakraverty

Ronjon Chakraverty is a Professor of Haematology at the University of Oxford, leading the Chakraverty Group focused on haematopoietic transplantation and immunotherapy. He holds dual roles as an academic and an attending consultant physician. Previously, he was a Professor at University College London (UCL), where he merged transplant services to create a major European program in haematopoietic transplantation. His clinical and academic career includes roles as an MRC Clinical Training Fellow and LRF Bennett Senior Fellow.

Education: MB ChB (University of Birmingham), PhD (Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, Oxford), and specialized training in haematology and internal medicine at Cambridge and Oxford. His research explores mechanisms underlying T cell immunotherapy efficacy in cancer, focusing on CD8+ T cell exhaustion, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), and strategies to enhance T cell persistence and antitumor activity. Current work includes redirecting T cells to bone marrow niches and mitigating immune-related adverse events.

Research highlights include identifying CD4+ T cell assistance and metabolic pathway manipulation as therapeutic targets. Clinical innovations include optimizing T cell depletion methods and GVHD treatments. Key awards include the LRF Bennett Senior Fellowship in Experimental Haematology.

Advising and grants: Led translational trials in cellular therapy and contributed to infrastructure for first-in-human gene and cell therapy trials at Oxford. His work bridges preclinical models and clinical applications, emphasizing translational research.
