Rong R Wang

Rong R Wang is the John C. Metzger Professor and Department Head of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). She holds editorial roles as Associate Editor of Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology and on the boards of Bioengineering and Journal of Functional Biomaterials. Her research focuses on interdisciplinary approaches merging material science, biochemistry, bioengineering, and nanotechnology to address biomedical challenges.

Education: BS from Jilin University (1990), PhD from University of Tokyo (1996), and a postdoc at Los Alamos National Lab (1998-2000). Current research includes developing biocomposite materials for tissue repair, salivary sensors for disease diagnosis, silk-based biomedical devices, and stimuli-responsive polymers for drug delivery.

Her work is funded by NIH and NSF grants. Key research themes include nanomedicine, biomaterials design, and medical diagnostics using machine learning and advanced imaging techniques. She leads a lab training students in biochemistry, biophysics, and analytical chemistry.
