Dr. Ronan Farrell is a Senior Lecturer and Principal Investigator at CONNECT, Maynooth University. He serves as Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering and specializes in physical layer radio technologies, microelectronics, and digitally-enhanced RF circuits. His research focuses on RF frontend electronics, active antennas, and Massive-MIMO systems.
Dr. Farrell has been actively involved in Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) initiatives, including leadership roles in the CTVR and CONNECT Centres. He has pioneered work in wireless sensor networks and smart cities through an SFI Geotechnologies Cluster and co-founded the Dublinked innovation network, driving open-data and smart-city activities from 2011–2015.
With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and three patents (one commercialized via the spinout Socowave), Dr. Farrell emphasizes innovation and knowledge transfer. He has received multiple national and university awards for commercialization efforts and contributed to national innovation policy through committee memberships.
