Ronald W. Marx is a Professor of Educational Psychology and Dean Emeritus at the University of Arizona's College of Education. He previously held the Paul L. Lindsey and Kathy J. Alexander Chair during his deanship. His career includes roles at Simon Fraser University and the University of Michigan, where he led the Educational Studies Program and co-directed impactful centers like the Center for Highly Interactive Computing in Education (winner of a Computerworld-Smithsonian Laureate) and the Center for Learning Technologies in Urban Schools (winner of the Urban Impact Award).
Marx earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Stanford University. His research focuses on enhancing science education in urban schools, teacher professional development, and early childhood education. He has secured over $40 million in research funding and published over 120 articles, with an h-index of 51. Recent work bridges early education, school readiness, and interdisciplinary collaboration with public health and psychology.
His publications emphasize systemic educational reforms, inquiry-based learning, and culturally responsive teaching. Notable themes include firearm safety in families with children, early math and literacy assessments, and the impact of Mexican American studies programs on student achievement.
Marx is civically engaged as a founding member of Tucson Values Teachers and the Tucson Cradle to Career Initiative's leadership council. He previously chaired the Community Investment team at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and serves on the Southern Arizona Advisory Board of Act One.
