Ronald Swanstrom

Ronald Swanstrom is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He serves as Director of the UNC Center For AIDS Research, focusing on HIV pathogenesis, evolution, and latency. His research explores viral evolution in disease progression and mechanisms of HIV reservoir formation.

Research Interests: His work spans virology, retrovirology, and RNA biology, with emphasis on understanding how HIV persists in latent reservoirs and evolves during disease progression. His lab contributes to combating viral-associated cancers through molecular studies of retroviruses.
