Ron Sages is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics at the University of Georgia's College of Family and Consumer Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning/Behavioral Finance from Kansas State University (2012), an MBA in Finance and Taxation from the University of Connecticut (1979), and a BGS in Liberal Arts from Ohio University (1973). His research focuses on applied behavioral finance in estate planning and client psychology barriers. He teaches in the online PFP Master’s Program and the Double Dawgs Joint JD/MSFS Program.
Previously, he served as Investment Officer/Director of Financial Planning at Eagle Ridge Investment Management (2017–present), CEO/Founder of Chapin Asset Management (1992–2017), and held senior roles at Bankers Trust Company and Connecticut Bank & Trust Co. He received the Faculty Excellence Award (GPIDEA, 2016) and has served on editorial boards for Journal of Financial Planning and Trust & Investments.
His expertise spans estate planning, fiduciary taxation, portfolio management, and financial planning practice management. Ongoing research integrates behavioral factors into estate planning within blended family contexts. He has authored/co-authored multiple books including The Case Approach to Financial Planning (2022) and contributed to The Psychology of Financial Planning (2022).
