Romy D Hanna is a Researcher in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin. Her work focuses on primitive materials in carbonaceous chondrites and asteroids to advance understanding of the early Solar System's formation and evolution.
Dr. Hanna's research centers on planetary geology and meteoritics, focusing on carbonaceous chondrites and asteroids to understand the formation and evolution of the early Solar System. She investigates processes such as deformation, aqueous alteration, and thermal metamorphism in primitive chondritic material.
She employs advanced analytical and remote sensing techniques including electron microbeam (EBSD), X-ray computed tomography (XCT), and visible to near-infrared (VISNIR) and thermal infrared (TIR) spectroscopy. As a Participating Scientist on the OSIRIS-REx mission, she uses spectral data from asteroid Bennu to assess its geologic history. Her work also involves developing software for XCT data processing and collaborating on instrument development for space missions.
Dr. Hanna has been honored with multiple awards:

She serves as Principal Investigator for the NASA Planetary Science Enabling Facilities award to the UTCT facility, supporting planetary scientists. Additionally, she develops XCT data processing software and collaborates on space instrument development for future missions.
