Roman Wan-Wendner

Roman Wan-Wendner is a Professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), affiliated with the Department für Agrarwissenschaften and Institut für Konstruktiven Ingenieurbau. He serves as Head of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Life Cycle Robustness of Fastening Systems (2014-2021) and Deputy Head of the Institute of Structural Engineering (2013).

Research Interests: His work focuses on structural engineering, concrete technology, and materials science, particularly investigating time-dependent behaviors like creep and shrinkage, adhesive anchoring systems, hygrothermal aging of polymers, and computational modeling of concrete structures. He examines how material properties evolve over time and their impact on structural durability.

Publications & Projects: Wan-Wendner's research spans thermosetting polymers, concrete fastening systems, and life cycle analysis. He led projects such as 'Hygrothermal Aging of Particle-Filled Thermoset Polymers' and 'Österreichischer Beton Benchmark,' integrating chemo-mechanical simulations and discrete element modeling.

Awards: He has received recognition including the BOKU Teaching Award (2011), IABSE Young Engineer Outstanding Paper Award (2008), and multiple grants from FWF and Christian Doppler Forschungsgesellschaft.

Supervised Students: Wan-Wendner has mentored 17 theses, including dissertations and diploma theses, on topics like bonded anchors, concrete aging, and fiber-reinforced composites.
