Roman Shchepin is an Assistant Professor at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He holds a B.S. from Perm State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research focuses on hyperpolarized magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques, including parahydrogen-induced polarization (PHIP) and signal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE). These methods enhance NMR/MRI signal sensitivity for biomedical applications.
Key research areas include developing hyperpolarized contrast agents for metabolic imaging, optimizing low-field MRI systems, and synthesizing novel molecular probes. He has pioneered cost-effective parahydrogen generators and explored applications in antifungal drug discovery and hypoxia sensing.
Dr. Shchepin's work bridges chemical synthesis and biomedical engineering, with contributions to portable MRI technologies and isotopic labeling strategies. His publications span topics from nitrogen-15 hyperpolarization to fluorine-19 imaging agents, demonstrating interdisciplinary innovation in analytical and biomedical chemistry.
