Eduard Chekmenev is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Wayne State University (WSU), affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Karmanos Cancer Center. His research focuses on hyperpolarized contrast agents, biomedical imaging, and magnetic resonance techniques.
Education:
- B.S., Perm State University, Russia (1998)
- Ph.D., University of Louisville (2003)
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: National High Field Magnetic Lab (2003–2005), Caltech (2007–2008), and Huntington Medical Research Institutes (2008–2009)
Research Interests: His work combines chemistry and radiology to develop hyperpolarized MRI contrast agents. Key areas include signal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE), parahydrogen applications, and clinical translation of molecular imaging tools. He aims to advance non-invasive diagnostics for cancer metabolism and lung ventilation.
Publications & Trends: Recent articles (2021–2025) highlight innovations in hyperpolarized pyruvate, xenon gas imaging, and low-field MRI. Contributions span SABRE/SHEATH techniques, RASER signal enhancement, and clinical hyperpolarizer design.
Awards:
- Era of Hope Scholar Award (2012)
- RSNA Distinguished Investigator Award (2017)
- Elected to Russian Academy of Sciences (2016)
Labs & Teams: Collaborates across disciplines at WSU and Karmanos Cancer Center. Active in developing affordable hyperpolarization technologies for point-of-care MRI.
