Roman Goncharenko is a Visiting Lecturer in the Finance Research Group at KU Leuven. His research focuses on monetary policy transmission mechanisms, banking regulation, and the intersection of financial stability with environmental sustainability (green finance). He explores topics such as lender heterogeneity, bank opacity, and the impact of regulatory interventions like stress tests and contingent convertible bonds (CoCos). His work combines theoretical macroeconomic modeling with empirical analyses of credit markets and firm-bank relationships.
His publications address pressing issues in modern finance, including the effectiveness of monetary policy in non-ideal labor markets, the consequences of 'sin' bank closures on corporate performance, and the role of green finance in transitioning to sustainable economies. He has also investigated how banks' provisioning practices and capital structures influence financial stability.
Goncharenko's research demonstrates a strong focus on policy-relevant topics, with implications for central banking, regulatory frameworks, and the design of financial instruments. His work bridges macroeconomic theory with applied finance, leveraging both empirical and theoretical approaches to address contemporary challenges in the global financial system.
