Romain Koszul is a Permanent Researcher and group leader at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France, affiliated with the Department of Genomes and Genetics. He leads the research group focused on viral genome organization and dynamics, where he supervises PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and engineers. His research is supported by prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grants, including the ERC Starting Grant (DICIG) and ERC Consolidator Grant (Synarchic), reflecting his leadership in the field of genome architecture.
His research focuses on the 3D organization of genomes, chromosome dynamics, and the development of computational tools for analyzing chromosome conformation data (Hi-C). He has pioneered the development of several widely used bioinformatics software packages such as Chromosight, instaGRAAL, Serpentine, and metaTOR, which enable high-resolution analysis of chromatin interactions, genome assembly, and metagenomic studies.
