Rolf Wicker

Prof. Rolf Wicker is a Professor of Artistic Fundamentals/Sculpture at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle since 2015. Previously, he held teaching roles at the Berlin-Weissensee Art Academy and the Caspar David Friedrich Institute in Greifswald. He served as Vice-Rector at the BURG from 2018 to 2022. His academic journey includes a diploma and master’s degree in sculpture from the Berlin-Weissensee Art Academy (KHB) and early training as a stonemason and sculptor.

• Education: Nuremberg Academy of Art and Design (1990–1993), Berlin-Weissensee Art Academy (1993–1997).

Research interests focus on sculpture, materials, and figurative art. He teaches courses such as "Dolls - between care and nightmare," "Nude and Figure Studies," and "Open Workshop," emphasizing sculptural exploration and interdisciplinary collaboration. Notable exhibitions include "FUTURES – Materials and Design of Tomorrow" and "Annual Exhibition 2025."

He actively engages in public art projects, such as the Sandstone Symposium in Reinhardtsdorf, and collaborates with institutions like the GRASSI Museum. His work explores themes like projection, materiality, and the interplay between reality and fiction in sculpture.
