معرفی
Rolf Lood is an Associate Professor and Researcher in Infection Medicine at Lund University's Faculty of Medicine, serving as Project Manager for the Experimental Infection Medicine group and Affiliated Researcher at Infect@LU. His work bridges laboratory research and clinical applications in infectious diseases through collaborations with medical doctors, chemists, and industry partners.
His research focuses on dual microbial roles in health and disease, investigating:
- Beneficial bacteria (probiotics) and secreted proteins (e.g., RoxP) in maintaining skin health
- Novel antimicrobial strategies using predatory bacteria and bacteriophages against drug-resistant infections
- Mechanisms of antibiotic resistance spread via mobile genetic elements and phages
Recent publications reveal strong emphasis on Nordic antimicrobial resistance surveillance in wastewater, Cutibacterium acnes pathogenesis in acne, and engineered phage therapies. His work increasingly integrates environmental monitoring for emerging pathogens like Mpox through Horizon Europe initiatives.
Lood actively mentors PhD students including Silva, M.J. and Halling, I., and leads major grants such as Horizon Europe's ODIN (2023-2026) and ODIN-MPox (2024-2026) projects focused on environmental AMR surveillance, alongside Swedish-funded research on surgical site infections and endocarditis pathogens.
He directs the Experimental Infection Medicine laboratory at Lund's Biomedical Center, specializing in bacteriophage therapy, predatory bacteria research, and microbiome analysis through interdisciplinary teams spanning medical, engineering, and industrial domains.
