Rohan Lloyd is a Lecturer at James Cook University's Science and Society Projects, specializing in environmental history with a focus on the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). His research examines settler-Australian perspectives on the Reef, conservation vs. exploitation dynamics, and the interplay between science and public perception. His notable work includes the 2022 book Saving the Reef, shortlisted for the Australian Prime Minister's Prize for History (2023). He holds a National Library of Australia Summer Scholarship (2015).
Research interests span the history of environmentalism, marine environmental history, and the role of science in shaping conservation policies. He engages critically with historical narratives of resource exploitation and environmental stewardship.
